Obituary of IRWIN– Gwendoline Christine

June 8 2010 Gwen Irwin of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Gwen was born in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba. She was raised in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and received her Nursing Training in Saskatoon. She served overseas as a Nurse during WWII. Following the war Gwen returned to the Calgary area where she nursed at Turner Valley and Calgary. The highlight of her career and her life, was her involvement in the development of Bow Crest Nursing Home. Gwen was a pioneer in the development for the standard of care of senior citizens in Calgary. Gwen thoroughly enjoyed the horse races, casinos and her many trips to Las Vegas. Gwen is survived by her daughter Kathleen Saville, her sister and brother-in-law Donna and Bob White, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Gwen was predeceased by two sisters Muriel Newlove and Evelyn Brown and a brother Trayton Hamilton, as well as her parents. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, June 11, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
