I sincerely wish to send to you my condolences. Mr. Hughes taught me many things about the oil business and I will truly miss his laughter and wit, he was a true gentleman and it was an honour to be his partner in the Oil and Gas Business. My prayers are with Jean and the family during this time.
I always enjoyed visiting Uncle Bill and Aunt Jean. Bill was always insightful and witty with good advice. I know that you will all miss him very much and we will have him and all of you in our prayers.

I worked with Bill in the last few months of his life. He and I worked on pooling our respective land holdings and drilling a successful oil well on a section of land in southern Alberta. Although a tough negotiator, Bill was always a pleasure to deal with. I won’t ever forget the numerous enjoyable conversations we had. My condolences to Joni and the rest his family and friends.
We are sorry for your loss. There is a file for Arthur on Vets Affairs’online-only VIRTUAL WAR MEMORIAL. Image of his CWGC gravestone at Brookwood cemetery in England has been contributed.
“Flying Officer ARTHUR FRANCIS GARNSEY HUGHES died March 24, 1944 Service No. J/13752 Age: 23 Royal Canadian Air Force 415 Sqdn.. Son of Arthur Bertram Anderson Hughes and Elsie Paddon Hughes of Cereal, Alberta.”
Dear Mrs. HUGHES and family, I was sorry to hear about Mr. HUGHES. I have many fond memories of the time Mr. HUGHES spent with the kids, from standing in the bitter cold to meet the Confederation train in 1967, going for dinner at the A&W near Elbow drive and starting my baseball career at the age of eight across the road from our houses. Mr. HUGHES spent many summer evenings teaching the neighbourhood kids how to hit and throw a baseball. Obviously those lessons helped me, I continued to play ball for the next forty years. I also learned the term elbow grease, which was what I was supposed to use when washing the HUGHES family stationwagon.
Please accept my deepest symapathies, Mr HUGHES was one of the pioneers of 14A Street.
Fond Regards
Mary Kostashuk
