Obituary of BURR – Vivian Norma

November 9, 1926 – June 6, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vivian Norma Burr on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the age of 83 years. Vivian was born in Inwood, Manitoba, the daughter of Axel Hendrickson and Gerda Hemming. She was predeceased by her parents and eight siblings. Vivian will be lovingly remembered by her dear friends and family; sisters, Myrtle Brydges and Bernice Zillman; brother Wallace Hendrickson; as well as her children, daughter Carolyn (Richard) Wilkinson of Calgary, son Grant (Sue) Burr of Port Dover, ON, daughters, Judy Burr of Calgary and Jacquie Boyer of Vancouver, BC. Vivian was especially proud of her eight grandchildren, Andrew, Claire (Lewis Brown) and Karla Wilkinson, Chris Burr (Ewa), Yana Loo and Che Burr-Amaya, Dallas and Josh Boyer. She was thrilled by the birth of her first great grandchild Emmett Andrew Brown in October 2009. Vivian spent her early days on the farm near Inwood, before starting her teaching career. She married Melvin Burr in 1948 and moved to Fort Francis, Ontario. After living in numerous communities throughout the prairies, she settled in Calgary. She enjoyed travelling, especially her twenty-one visits to Hawaii, cruising on The Queen Mary II and trips with her granddaughter Karla. Her many interests included dancing, attending music festivals, watching curling and baseball, playing bridge, cribbage and golf, volunteering for many organizations, attending equestrian events at Spruce Meadows, going fishing, hiking in the mountains and cross country skiing. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and membership in the VASA Lodge. Vivian had friends around the world and appreciated their love and support, especially during the last year. Mom loved her family deeply and found it very difficult to leave all of us. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
