Obituary of SCHAMUHN – W. Patricia
January 10, 1925 – May 28, 2010
Pat Schamuhn, dearly loved wife of Bob for 60 years, passed away peacefully and with dignity on Friday, May 28, 2010 at the age of 85.
Pat was born in Calgary, and lived on Macleod Trail when it was still a dirt trail. During WWII she worked at the Bowden airfield, meeting people from around the Commonwealth when airmen came to train in Alberta for the war. Her adventure continued after she married Bob, her life’s love; the young couple moved to Montreal, then Venezuela, and then Mexico City in the space of two decades. They finally settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and returned to Calgary to enjoy their well-earned retirement. Pat made a home wherever her family was and made friends everywhere she went. Wit, integrity, compassion, and intelligence were her hallmarks. She was an artist, a voracious reader, a gifted gardener and life-long dog lover. She was a survivor who determinedly fought her battle with Lupus for 40 years.
She leaves a legacy of strength and love for her daughters: Vicki Engen and Sheila (Tom) Montzka and her grandchildren: Rob (Claire), Kristy, Jeni and Kelsey. Her love for, and pride in, her grandchildren was boundless. She will be carried in our hearts always.
Funeral Services will be held at Oak Park Church of Christ (11623 Oakfield Drive S.W.) on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Mustard Seed Street Ministry or the Salvation Army Centre of Hope.
