Obituary of FLOCK – George Henry

December 11, 1925 – May 27, 2010 George Flock beloved husband of Betty for over 62 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 27, 2010. For George, the family came first. He was a gracious husband, a caring father and a devoted grandfather. The Flocks were notorious for their riotous family gatherings. The clan included his five siblings, their children and George and Betty’s five children. Many memorable vacations were taken with the station wagon piled high pulling the boat that George built. Being a skilled card player he excelled in gin rummy games at the Calgary Petroleum Club and in bridge, the kitchen variety with Betty and in tournaments with Doran. George was involved in many community projects including the Variety Club, Rehabilitation Society and Skimeisters. He spent many enjoyable days volunteering on the ski hills helping his children compete in ski racing up to the Canadian National Team and World Cup level. After a successful career with the ERCB, George retired and moved to Victoria where he volunteered with the Commonwealth Games and taught bridge and billiards at Somerset House. In 2003 he and Betty returned to Calgary to be with their family. He was happiest in the company of his wife, family and friends. Always the ultimate gentleman, he thought the best of those around him and was respected by all who made his acquaintance. Big George, as his family fondly called him, will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife Betty, their five children Kelly, Doran (Norma), Megan (Don Ballance), Brad (Dena), and Curtis; his grandchildren Kendra and Morgan (their mother Linda), and Brandon, and step-grandson Mark Laws; his brothers Henry and Donald (Marie), his sister Shirley Flock Griffin, his sister-in-law Monta-Bernice and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Alfred and Merlin. A family service has been held. Pursuant to his wishes there will be no funeral. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family thanks all of the care-givers at Carewest Signal Pointe, most especially for the loving care provided by the ever-gracious people in House 2 and Sam Parkes, his special companion. “Do not mourn for me, for I have not left you.
