Obituary of DELEUW – Jacoba

April 20, 1928 – May 25, 2010 Our loving Oma, Jacoba Deleuw of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the age of 82 years. Jacoba was born on April 20, 1928 in Scheveningen, the northern part of Holland. Her adolescence was defined by memories of WWII, even surviving the Hunger Winter as the war ended. On June 25, 1947, she married her loving husband of forty-three years, Henricus Maria Deleuw and they immigrated to Canada in May 1957. Knowing little English, she learned through reading, which became her favourite pastime. Together, she and Henricus embraced the challenges of their new life with optimism and hard work. In 1959, they adopted Mary-Ann and in 1962, they completed their family with the adoption of Jacqueline Patricia. Jacoba embodied the true spirit of giving, believing it’s not what you have but what you have to give. Through World Vision she sponsored a child for the past ten years and had contributed faithfully to her passion and love of animals through the Calgary Humane Society. Her life, values, and her faith will be cherished and missed by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and Patrick Brockerville and Mary-Ann and Richard Bolton; five grandchildren, Jenna and Daniel Brockerville, and Kristal, Kathleen, and Andrew Bolton; and four great-grandchildren, Skye, Kyra, Joshua, and Lily. She leaves behind in Holland her sister Sjaan, and brothers Hank and Arie. Jacoba was predeceased by her husband Henricus, and brother Ment.
