Obituary of MEYER – Gerald Reinhold

July 30, 1938 – May 23, 2010 It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of Gerald Reinhold Meyer, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the age of 71. Gerald was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan moving to Calgary to begin his working career in his chosen field of insurance. Gerald was survived by is wife Sharon of 48 years; sons, David, Steven, and Joel who all reside in Calgary; one daughter-in-law, Sara; four grandchildren, Michaela, Wyatt, Seth, and Izabela; and his two sisters, Lynda and Shirley. He loved scuba diving and often commented that his favourite vacation was one spent in Hawaii with his family. Gerald’s pastimes included doing crossword puzzles, teaching, and mentoring. He was also proudly affiliated with the Lutheran Church. He had an admitted weakness for cashews and especially his grandchildren. He was a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada and received a certificate in mediation from the University of Calgary. His career highlights included being senior vice president of Reed Stenhouse Insurance, a teacher at SAIT, the president of the Insurance Institute of Southern Alberta. He also served as a mediator working on commercial and insurance related disputes and was a co-founder of an international software company with clients in nine countries. A Celebration of Life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church (14640 – 6th Street S.W.) on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd.
