KELLY Jessie Spalding

Obituary of KELLY – Jessie Spalding

January 12, 1929 – May 22, 2010 Jessie Spalding Kelly (nee Fraser) died suddenly and peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the age of 81 years. Beloved mother to Laurie, Janet (Clint), Michael (Natasha), and Katherine; Nana to Jonathan (Elaine); and Grandma to Brandon, Nathan, and Alexandra; Jessie lived a long and happy life. She was born on January 12, 1929 in Claresholm, Alberta to Archibald and Ritha Fraser. Like many of her generation, Jessie survived the Depression and World War II and succeeded in getting an education and starting a family with Richard Kelly, whom she married in 1959. Although Jessie and Richard divorced in 1989, their family remained their priority. Jessie was a creative person for whom the allure of the next project often overruled the focus on the last one. She loved to sew, creating superhero Halloween costumes for the grandsons, clothing for the family, quilts and needlework. Still an avid reader at the time of her death, Jessie was eagerly awaiting the next release from her favourite author. Jessie was a vivacious person who could be counted on to know the news of the day and welcomed the chance to debate current issues. Jessie felt her children and grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. She was much loved and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Jessie’s memory to her favourite charities: Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation (100 – 119 14th Street Northwest, Calgary, Alberta T2N-1Z6; Telephone: 403-264-5549) or the Breast Cancer Foundation (600 – 686 West Broadway, Vancouver, British Colombia V5Z-1G1; Telephone: 1-888-906-2873). Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the service and mourners are welcome to stay and reminisce with the family.
