Obituary of POMEROY – Janet Mae

July 23, 1928 – May 14, 2010 Surrounded by her loving family, Jan (Janet Mae) Pomeroy passed away peacefully at Chinook Hospice on Friday May 14, 2010. Jan will be lovingly remembered and always missed by her three sons, Jim (and Diane), John (and Rebecca), and Allen (and Amanda) and 2 grandchildren, Kathryn and Mike; her brothers Bob (and Norma) and Dave (and Lois); a rich abundance of other relatives and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, her son Brian and her sister Margaret. An incredible woman, Jan’s talents were many and her enthusiasm was great. She was a devoted mother and wife. Jan trained as a nurse and practiced those caring skills throughout her life. When the boys were young she helped to make things happen indoors and out – scouting and school, church and family. As the boys grew so did Jan’s facilitating of skiing and hiking, climbing and canoeing, and cooking classes. Always an enabling force in all our lives, Jan also found time for her passions. Her thumb was green and her yard and greenhouse reflected it. Her wine won awards and she taught others sewing skills. Jan was an active volunteer in the community and church. She was a lifetime member of the Nordic Ski Club. Jan was a familiar face at cookie races and in many other volunteer roles including the Canadian Cancer support group, Confederation Park, her wine club and many others. Jan’s legacy lives in on with sons who can cook, friends who smile and a world that is a brighter place for her having passed through. Our many thanks to the caring staff of Unit 100 at the Foothills Medical Centre and the compassionate care of the staff at Chinook Hospice.
