Obituary of BOLANDER – Barry John

March 13 ,1947 – May 7, 2010 Barry passed away peacefully at Agape Hospice in Calgary on Friday May 7, 2010 at the age of 63 years after a recent diagnosis of duodenal cancer. Barry was born in Edmonton and moved several times as a child living in Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Montreal. He received a Bachelor of Commerce from Acadia University. He began working in Winnipeg with Great West Life and continued his career with moves to Regina, Edmonton, settling at last in Calgary in 1981. He worked in Pension Administration with the Saskatchewan Government, the City of Edmonton, the Calgary District Pipe Trades and Watson Wyatt, retiring in 2003. Barry enjoyed many sports, participating at various times of his life in tennis, skiing, hiking and curling but golf was his life long passion. As a child and young adult he traveled throughout North America, visiting almost every province and state. In retirement he expanded his horizons with trips to the Caribbean, England, Ireland, France, Italy, Turkey and Greece, with many future travel plans left unfulfilled. With marriage in 1993 he embraced family life with wife Ardith and step-son Michael. While Barry had many endearing qualities he will be remembered most for his love of life, his sense of humour, and his loyalty and commitment to his family and friends. Barry will be greatly missed by his wife Ardith, mother Ruth and many friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his son Michael Bowden in 2003 and his father Jack in 2008. A memorial service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday May 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
