Obituary of NICOLS – Mary Elizabeth Maud

May 8, 1933 – April 29, 2010 Mary Nicols, beloved wife of Don Nicols of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2010 after a three year battle with ALS at the age of 76 years. Mary married Bill Hartford in 1953 and had six children, Dan, Bill (Lynn), Linda, Randy (Cindie), Cathie and Twila. She married Don Nicols in 1979 and welcomed his two sons, David (Dawn) and Meredith (Sharon) Botta, to her family. She had seventeen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Catherine in 2005. Mary’s passion was people and she dedicated her life to helping and supporting anyone in need. She was one of the founding members of Triwood Community Association. Mary was very active in Eastern Star, serving as Secretary, Worthy Matron and Grand Representative to Delaware. She was also active in the Red Hatters Club. Mary spent countless hours supporting her wonderful husband Don, with his activities in Scottish Right, Masons and Eastern Star. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in memory of Mary Nicols directly to the A.L.S. Society of Alberta (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Suite 400, 320 – 23 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2S 0J2, . Many thanks to the care givers and staff at Sarcee Long Term Care Centre (Care West) for their kindness, compassion and care of Mary as well as to the ALS society.
