Obituary of FRIEDENBERG – Margaret

July 26, 1920 – April 28, 2010 Margaret Friedenberg, 89, passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. She was born in Calgary on July 26, 1920. Her parents were Jack and Janet Spencer, both long-term residents of Calgary. She attended High School at Crescent Heights where she was active in the various choral societies. She then worked for CFAC radio station where she did continuity, and had a radio program where she sang. She also worked at The Hudson Bay Company and the T. Eaton Company in the cosmetics departments. Margaret married Fred Riddell, a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force, at St. Barnabas Church in Calgary on March 28, 1942. Three years later he was discharged from the RCAF, and they moved to Vancouver, and then later to the United States where she lived in several locations including Ithaca, New York, Santa Monica, California, Boston, Massachusetts, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Burke, Virginia. Four years after Fred passed away in 1998, Margaret returned to Calgary and married a long time Calgary resident, and well known local musician, Jack Friedenberg who passed away in December of 2005. While Margaret lived in the United States she was a homemaker, and an avid bridge player. Margaret also enjoyed writing and painting, as well as playing the piano. She loved to travel often taking weekend car trips through the mountains and longer trips to visit friends and relatives. Margaret is survived by her three sons, Rick who lives in Magalia, California, Spencer a resident of Melbourne, Florida, and Mark a resident of Houston, Texas, and by her sister Betty Sawyer of Calgary, and her brother Jim Spencer a resident of Toronto. A Gathering Celebrating Margaret’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. All of Margaret’s friends are welcome to attend the gathering.
