Obituary of STEED – Doris May

August 28, 1919 – April 26, 2010 Doris Steed passed away quietly with family by her side on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the age of 90 years. Mother was a homemaker, a loving and caring person who would do anything for her family. She had many friends over the years. Doris was born in London, England where she worked for the war effort on an assembly line, making parts for airplanes. Mother also worked with an heirloom, making linen. After the war, the family lived in Southend-on-Sea where Dad was a policeman before joining the Canadian Army. The family moved and lived all across Canada, as well as in Germany, before finally deciding to settle in Calgary, in 1969. Mother was happy being a homemaker and taking care of her family, her friends and she loved life. She will be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, her strength, sense of humour, Irish temper and she was, without a doubt, the best friend anyone could ever have. Doris is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Brenda Doris Steed, Barbara Ann and Ray Rowland; grandchildren, Krista (James Collins) Rowland-Collins, Angela (Bob) Koenig; and two great-grandchildren, Danika and Ryder Koenig. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander Arthur Steed. A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #285, 9202 Horton Road S.W., Calgary, AB T2V 2X4, 403-255-5772.
