Obituary of SO – Yun Ming

June 24, 1918 – April 23, 2010 Yun Ming So, respected father of Tommy and Jimmy So, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the age of 91 years. Yun Ming was born on June 24, 1918 in Malaysia, to the proud father of Siu So. Yun Ming moved to Singapore when he was a young teenager, where he made his way to mainland China through Thailand and Burma, and eventually settled in Hong Kong after World War II. That was where he met his wife, Po Lan of sixty years! The family then moved to Canada in 1974 and settled in Calgary for the last thirty-six years. During that time, he worked at the Calgary Tower with Chef Dario, and later followed him to the Chateau Airport where he continued to work until his retirement. Yun Ming is survived by his sons, Tommy Pui Keng and Jim Yu Leung (Dixie); god daughter Christina Chow (Cairo); and all his grandchildren he loved with all his heart, Deanna, Celina, Chelsea, Jonathan, Alexander, Keith, Rene, and Kristy. Yun Ming was a devoted father and he will be deeply missed by his family, relatives, and friends. Yun Ming was predeceased by his wife of sixty years just six weeks ago, Po Lan, and his eldest son Stephen Yu Kuen. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
