Obituary of HAMILTON – Nona Diana

January 26, 1915 – April 20, 2010 Nona Diana Hamilton passed away in Calgary on Tuesday April 20, 2010. Nona was born in Los Angeles, California, on January 26, 1915. Following graduation from Inglewood High School she studied at the Southwestern University School of Law between 1934 and 1936. She met her future husband, Charles Maynard Hamilton, when both were involved in Upton Sinclair’s End Poverty in California (EPIC) gubernatorial campaign in 1934. They married in Browning, Montana, in 1936 and honeymooned on a yacht named “Coquette” along the west coast of Mexico. Thereafter they divided their time between California and Alberta while Maynard was employed as an oil executive. After Maynard’s death in Calgary in 1982, Nona enjoyed frequent visits in California with her sister Hetty, who died in 2005 at age ninety-nine. Nona was also predeceased by her parents Gustav and Clara (Schulz) Cook and brothers Harry and Daniel. She is survived by her brother Benjamin (Maxine) in Calgary; stepdaughter Adana in Phoenix; nephews and nieces Ben (Pauline), Ken (Judy), Kathy (Tom), and Tom (Jane) in Calgary and Woody (Jan), Sandy (Dennis), Sue (Steve), and Barbara (George) in the United States; and many great and great-great nephews and nieces in both countries.
