Obituary of PATTERSON – James Vernon

August 21, 1954 – April 18, 2010 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear son, brother, uncle and friend Jim after a courageous battle with cancer. He made this difficult journey with grace, dignity, strength and until the end he kept his wonderful sense of humour. He was an inspiration to us all. Jim is survived by his parents Don and Verla Patterson of Victoria, B.C., his sister Brenda Sears (John who Jim called his second brother), sister Karalee Nicholson (Blair), brother Bill Patterson (Bambi), sister Bonnie Patterson, numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and his good friend Jeanni. Jim enjoyed travelling the world, but best loved hiking and biking in our Alberta foothills and mountains. His great love and knowledge of the world and nature was inspirational… he was our go to guy for information. Witty, generous and intellectual, Jim often, admirably took the road less travelled. We will miss the twinkle in his eyes as he joked and teased us. A special thanks to Doctor Laurie Lemieux and all the wonderful ladies (whom we call angels) at Rosedale Hospice. Jim had a “second family” at Rosedale. He so enjoyed these great gals. There was never a worry in all the months about Jim when we left the hospice each day because we knew he was in loving, caring hands. Their support extended to our family too and we are so grateful. Jim will be forever loved and missed. There will be no service at Jim’s request… just a big family gathering where we will celebrate his life. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Rosedale Hospice #920 – 7A Street NW, Calgary, AB T2M 3J3 Telephone: (403) 284 – 5195. In living memory of Jim Patterson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.
