Obituary of Dora Anna CASWELL

March 11, 1915 – April 17, 2010 Dora Caswell of Calgary passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the age of 95 years. Beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Dora’s twinkling eyes and loving manner will be deeply missed. Born in her parents’ home on March 11, 1915 in Clinton, Ontario Dora grew up in Huron County with her two younger sisters Ruth and Lois. Leaving to pursue an education and work Dora lived in Ottawa in her early twenties before meeting and marrying Asa Caswell on September 20, 1941 in Brockville, Ontario. Moving west in 1949, Dora and Asa raised their growing family of seven children in Killarney, MB, Moose Jaw, SK and Winnipeg, MB where they lived until 1975. For thirty-five years, Dora lived in Calgary where she created a full life with family and friends; travelling, volunteering and filling her days visiting and corresponding with those she loved. Dora will be remembered for her gentle spirit and quiet strength. A hallmark of Dora’s life was her unwavering and enduring faith in God and her saviour Jesus Christ. Confirmed in her belief, Dora trusted in God and she lived her life in the loving hands of Christ. Above all, Dora cherished her family. Predeceased by her husband of thirty-nine years, Asa Caswell, and daughters Marilyn Howie and Velma Thorington and son-in-law Robert Thorington, she is survived by her sisters Ruth Dunbar and Lois Herman; daughters Ruth (Harold) Ochsner and Shirley (Duane) Nelson; sons Charles (June) Caswell, Clinton (Denise) Caswell and Douglas (Barbara) Caswell; and son-in-law Garnet Howie. Dora, a devoted grandmother, will be missed dearly by her fifteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
