Obituary of McCAFFREY – Irene

May 9, 1941– April 14, 2010 Irene McCaffrey beloved wife of Richard (Dick) McCaffrey of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Okotoks Country Hospice on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the age of 68 years. Irene was born in Edmonton, AB on May 9, 1941, the first of two children of Walter and Jean Farynowski. Irene grew up in Warspite, AB moving to Edmonton as a young woman to study nursing. She graduated from the Edmonton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. After working in various hospitals in Alberta and the United States, she married her husband of forty-four years, Richard McCaffrey, in Edmonton on March 10, 1966. Together they enjoyed working throughout Alberta before settling in Calgary. In between raising their two children, Nicole and Lorin, Irene moved from active nursing into the field of occupational health and safety, completing post-graduate studies at Grant MacEwan College, and working in the field for twenty-five years, until her retirement in 2001. Throughout her life, Irene maintained a natural curiosity and love of learning, cultivating a vast knowledge of holistic and alternative medicine. Her passions included light and sound teachings as it pertained to Mayan culture, and travelling. Irene spent her retirement years enjoying the things she loved best; spending time with her family, and travelling widely with her beloved husband, including wintering in their second home in Chapala, Mexico. She will be missed by her husband Dick; daughter Nicole; son Lorin and his wife Jesma; mother Jean Farynowski; brother John Farynowski; her grandchildren; and many other friends and family. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at a later date in Edmonton.
