Obituary of ZORNIAK – Panteleymon

August 9, 1930 – April 13, 2010 After a long courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandpa, Papa, and Husband Ben Zorniak. Panteleymon (Ben) Zorniak was born August 9th, 1930 in Naklo Poland. At the age of four, Ben immigrated to Canada with his parents Jan and Katarzyna Zorniak, as well as his siblings, Steve, Morris, Walter, and Anne. After entering through Quebec City, the family made their way across Canada and settled on a farm in Sion, AB. After the death of his father, Ben helped with the family farm until he moved to Edmonton. Upon completion of his apprenticeship in welding, his career took him throughout Western Canada. Ben had an entrepreneurial spirit and opened a successful welding machine shop which enabled him and his wife, Loretta to retire in 1985. Thoroughly enjoying their retirement, Ben and Loretta travelled often. For many years, they spent the winter in southern United States and Mexico, with their motor home. They also took great pleasure in seeing other countries such as Spain, Australia and Central America. Ben’s curiosity, quick wittedness, and sense of humour will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. Ben is survived by the love of his life, best friend, and travelling partner of fifty one years Loretta; and their three children, Kathy (Russ) Barss, Michael and David (Toby); five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Ellen, Alyssa, Keith, and Rowan. He is also survived by his sisters, Anne and Olga; his two brothers, Robert (Sonia) and Peter (Anna); brother-in-law Bill Fischer; sisters-in-law Pauline Banack and Helen Fischer; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Alberta, British Columbia, and USA. In respect to Ben’s wishes, a Private Family Graveside Service will be held. You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail N.W., Calgary, AB T3B 6A8, Telephone: (403) 955-8818. We wish to thank Dr. Todd, Lorraine, Bennette, Susan P., Bernadette, and staff at the Bow View Manor, Calgary, for their compassion and professional care. In living memory of Ben Zorniak, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Cochrane Funeral Home, 369 RAILWAY STREET, COCHRANE. Telephone: (403) 932-4740.
