Obituary of DEWOLFE – John Benjamin

July 1, 1918 – April 6, 2010 John B. DeWolfe, beloved husband of Doris DeWolfe of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, following a brief illness at the age of 91 years. John was born in St. George, New Brunswick, on July 1, 1918. He obtained his public school education in that province before pursuing post-secondary education. The Second World War interrupted the endeavour, with John being on Active Service with the RCAF in the United Kingdom from 1942 to 1945. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, together with the Defence Medal. John was then able to complete his earlier interrupted BA degree at Acadia University by 1946, followed by his Law degree at Dalhousie University. He was duly enrolled into the Barrister’s Society of Nova Scotia in 1950 and following his move out West to Calgary, became a member of the Law Society of Alberta the following year. John commenced employment with the City of Calgary Law Department in 1955 and spent much of his career as Deputy City Solicitor until his retirement in 1983. John married Doris in 1963 and they readily enjoyed 46 years together. A particularly meaningful activity for them was travelling, most of the time by train, to both the East and West Coasts of Canada to visit family members. Besides his loving wife, Doris, John will be remembered by his brother Max (Margaret), of Waterloo, ON and their children and families. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Burnsland Cemetery.
