Condolences
Rather belatedly we should like to add our condolences to the family remaining after the passing of a legend. Bernie fostered a love of Nordic skiing in countless Calgarians. Many school children and families will forever be in his debt. Like Jackrabbit before him Bernie inspired us to always ski for the love of the sport.
To Bernie’s family and friends,
I first met Bernie in 1969 in Calgary. He was selling cross country skis out of his basement at that time. I bought a pair of Bonna 2400s and a pair of Kikut boots. I taught myself to ski on a golf course near my home and now I live in Littleton Colorado where my wife and I have continued to cross country ski for the last 40 years.
I would like to give Bernie credit for introducing us to a sport that gives us great pleasure and provides a tremendous physical workout.
I imagine a picture of Bernie striding along effortlessly with the right wax, somewhere in Nirvana. Thanks, Bernie. Our condolences to the family.

What a privilege it was to be helped by Bernie in the ski shop. He always took his time to make sure everything was perfect for the customer and, they waited their turn patiently, packing the small shop to the door. He was an avid cross country skier, when it was not yet trendy, and his enthusiasm was contagious. I met him 5 days after arriving in Canada in 1976, to rent a pair of wooden Bla-skies. I had never cross country skied before, but after the trip I was hooked on Canada!
Thank you Bernie, your memory lives on, on the many trails in the Rockies. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Our condolences go out to Aunt Willy and family on the passing of Uncle Bernard. It was great to see him on our last trip to Calgary and letting him share some engine stories with us. He will be dearly missed.
Condolences to Willy and family from bother Gene and Doreen .
Willy, Larry and family
May peace be with you and your family at this time in the loss of your husband and father, Bernie. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Willy and Family – My deepest sympathy to you. Bernie was so much a part of Pioneer Acres he’ll be sadly missed. You just never knew where he might pop out from and he always had the most interesting stories. Let the memories help you in your grief.

To Willy and all of Bernie’s family –
Please accept our sympathy. We are glad we had the opportunity to meet Bernie during the last couple of years with the joining of our families through Monica and Andrew.
My thoughts are with Bernie and his family.
I still have a pair of BONNA skiis and bamboo poles bought from Bernie a long time ago. No hard edges. But they never broke. The skiis were expensive. $ 22.00 if memory is right.
Had many great trips with those skiis.
Jack
Dear Mason family!
I have so many great memories from all the years I have known Bernie. I borrowed a pair of touring skies from him in 1968, when I joined FNSC and later bought those great Sigmund Rud wooden skis.
All my love!
Sylvia
Sincere sympathy to you Larry on the passing of
your father.
He contributed so much and was a real pioneer
in cross country skiing.
