Obituary of HALPEN– Terrance O’Brien

November 16, 1925 – March 16, 2010 Terry Halpen, beloved husband of Mary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the age of 84 years. Terry was a native Calgarian. He attended St. Mary’s Boys High School and fondly remembered his junior football years with the Golden Arrows. Terry enjoyed a long and successful career in the oil patch, first with Sunoco and then as a sales representative for several oilfield supply companies. He was a Life Member of the Alberta Oilman’s Bonspiel Association, Director and Club Captain of Earl Grey Golf Club, member of the Calgary Grey Cup Committee and Life Member of the Calgary Stampede. Terry was a warm and generous man; his concern for the less fortunate defined his character. He brought KFC dinners and winter boots to the homeless, always stopped for stranded motorists, shepherded many a friend safely home, and never walked past a collection box. He was a charitable phone solicitor’s dream. Terry is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Patricia (Jim), Karen (Robert), Alix (Mike), sons Greg (Jacquie) and Michael (Linda) and their mother Eunice, and grandchildren Todd, Andrea, Marley, Finn, Kaya, Mitchell and Chelsea. He was also a loved and respected stepfather to Pat (Sara), Michael (Kate) and Mary Katherine (Bryan) and grandsons Matthew, Ethan and Peter. Terry was predeceased by his siblings Sadie, Art, Nora, Nellie, Bill, Margaret, Maureen, and Pat and survived by Theresa, Kathleen, and Michael. Terry taught us how to live well. We miss him dearly. “The memory of love is a memory that lasts forever”. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James’ Catholic Church (5504 – 20 Street S.W.) on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
