Obituary of Doreen Lillian HARMS

November 27, 1932 – March 8, 2010 Doreen Lillian Harms (nee LaMarsh), beloved wife of Jacob (Jake) Harms, passed away peacefully at home in Calgary, Alberta surrounded by her family on March 8th, 2010. Doreen was born in the MSA Abbotsford hospital, the younger of two children, and was raised in Huntingdon, BC. In 1956, she married Jake, a member of the RCAF, and together they spent the next twenty-seven years in many locations. While in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, son Dean was born. This was followed by time in Edmonton, AB and a transfer to France, where daughter Michelle was born. After four years overseas, they returned to Canada, and spent time between Trenton, ON, Edmonton, and Comox, BC. In 1980, they returned to civilian life with Michelin Tires Canada in Calgary and Vancouver for the next ten years. Following this they began to prepare for their retirement years. Doreen enjoyed recreational vehicle excursions and camping with her husband and family throughout western Canada. She also enjoyed more extensive trips with Jake to the Eastern provinces, Northwest Territories, Yukon and Alaska. After reading numerous books on early Australian history, they decided on a four month adventure to Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand, bringing back many fond memories. Doreen enjoyed reading, hiking, cooking, gardening, bowling, and the time spent with her granddaughters. In 2007, Doreen and Jake moved to Calgary to be closer to their children and families. Doreen passed away following a lengthy and courageous battle with severe chronic illnesses. She was predeceased by her parents, Ken and Myrtle LaMarsh. She is survived by her husband Jacob, son Dean (Debbie), daughter Michelle Dunbar (Craig), granddaughters Melissa, Jessica, Laura, Carolyn, and Meghan, her sister Shirley Johnson (Ray), nieces Pam Veenbaas (George), and Bev Kruse (Fred).
