Obituary of BARRIE – Alexander John

February 19, 1916 – March 2, 2010 Alex Barrie was born in Calgary to James and Violet Barrie on February 19, 1916. He made his way by God’s grace to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at age of 94 years. Alex, during his working years, was in the milk delivery business. He worked for Union Milk (Crystal Dairies) later to become Silverwoods, and then Alpha Dairies. He started driving one of four trucks at Union, as at that time most of the wagons were then pulled by horses. Alex later would become a supervisor/manager and moved with the company through its various transitions. Alex had a passion for fishing since boyhood and in later years, spent many happy days on the Dog Pound and later the Bow River west of the city, thanks to the good graces of the Harvey family. As a member of the Bow Valley Christian Church, he served in many capacities over the years. Alex is survived by his children, Doug (He-Leng), Vaughn (Bette), Gail (Brian), Marianne (Wayne); four grandchildren, Marla (Mike), Marshall, Nathan and Alexander; five step-grandchildren, Marissa, Jessica, Marcel (Jolie), Leah (Chad) and Gavin (Pam) and seven great-grandchildren. Alex was predeceased by his wife Helen; his brother James and his sister Gladys. Funeral Services will be held at Bow Valley Christian Church (5300 – 53rd Avenue N.W.) on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Billy Graham Society, P.O. Box 841, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Thanks to those at Unit 31 of the Foothills Medical Centre who helped dad through his last days.
