Obituary of McCOLL – Howard Stuart

June 13, 1927 – February 19, 2010 Howard Stuart McColl beloved husband of Paula McColl of Calgary, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010 at the age of 82 years. Stuart was born in Winnipeg in 1927 and with his parents moved to Victoria, B.C. in 1943 where he finished schooling at Victoria College and at the University of British Columbia in 1949 with a BASc. in Geological Engineering. He began a long career in petroleum exploration with Imperial Oil, moving to Brazil in 1956 to work for Petrobas, covering all of the prospective regions of that vast country. Returning to Canada in 1961 he worked for Dome Petroleum and in 1964 he moved with his family to Europe, participating in North Sea Exploration with Amoco Exploration. He opened an independent petroleum exploration consulting practice in Calgary in 1967 and in 1971 was employed by the Sunningdale Oils Ltd. as President, a position he held until 1975 when he returned to independent consulting. He retired from active work in 1991 and divided his time between residences in Calgary, California and the United Kingdom. Stuart is survived by his beloved wife Paula, daughters Catherine Dobbin and Janice Sneddon of Kelowna, B.C.; son Richard McColl of Mompos, Colombia; (children of previous marriages), his step son William (Emma) Robinson of London, England; his brother Rev. Rayburn McColl of Vancouver, B.C.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his second son, James in 1998.
