Obituary of Christina Ophelia WAYMARK

December 25, 1911 – February 16, 2010 Christina Waymark, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the age of 98 years. She was born in Calgary on December 25, 1911. Left to miss her are her children Dr. John (Margaret) Bishop, Kelowna; Louise Nielsen, Calgary and Judy (Bob Marr) Waymark, Hinton; her grandchildren Kathie, David, Tara, Michael, Stephen, Jason, Chris, Sandra and Terry; and her adored great-grandchildren Jordan, Henry, Alex, Ella, Lilianne, John, Pierce, Catherine, Jasper and Caroline. Christina was predeceased by her first husband F.O. George Bishop, who lost his life in service to Canada in 1944 and her second husband, Frank Waymark, in 1982; as well as by her three brothers Lawr, Herb and Les Topley. Christina’s maternal grandfather was Walter Moss, who emigrated from England and settled in the Shepard area in 1889. Christina was a proud and loyal member of the Pythian Sisters Lodge for over seventy years, enthusiastically participating in the Lodge’s charitable works and touring extensively throughout western Canada and the US in lodge service. As part of these trips she was not in the least averse to stops at casinos along the way. Throughout her life she was an ardent and indiscriminate sports fan. To her final days she knew teams, their members and league standing and which games were pivotal. In 2008 at the age of 96, she gave up her home and moved into Trinity Lodge where she enjoyed the many birthday parties and sing-a-long evenings with the “old tunes”. Her family would like to thank the many caregivers at Trinity Lodge, especially Wilma and Mila of whom she was especially fond. As well, we are grateful for the superb attention given to her in her final days by the doctors, nurses and caregiving personnel on Unit 42 at the Peter Lougheed Medical Centre. At Christina’s request there will be no funeral service. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S. (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society), Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 8M7 Telephone: (403) 295-1811, www.stars.ca. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Christina Waymark, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by MCINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES.
