Obituary of PEACOCK – Fred Halliday

November 23, 1916 – February 15, 2010 Fred H. Peacock of Calgary passed away peacefully on February 15, 2010 at the age of 93 years. Fred leaves daughters Leslie (Wolfgang) and Jane; son Brian (Robin); grandchildren, Stephen, Alex, Hillary, Kate, Jackson, Anders and Brenn, and great-granddaughter Matisse. He was predeceased by his wife Ursula in 2008. Fred lived most of his life in Calgary. He attended Crescent Heights High School and University in California before joining the RCAF in 1940 where he was a flight instructor and then Squadron Leader when discharged at the end of the war. Fred was an entrepreneur who after the war built a number of successful private businesses. He also served two terms as a Progressive Conservative MLA for Calgary Currie. He was appointed Alberta Minister of Trade and Industry in 1971 and was later appointed Agent-General for Alberta in Hong Kong. Fred was a former director of the Calgary Stampeders and held season tickets for over sixty years. He served with distinction on several boards including as President of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and as Chair of the Calgary United Way. He was a member of the Rotary (South Calgary Chapter), the Al Azhar Shriners, the Calgary Golf and Country Club, the Ranchmen’s Club and the Glencoe Club. Late in life, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Saviour, a decision that brought him great peace. During his long and fruitful life, Fred left a legacy of fond memories and valued friendships in his path. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
