Jessica. I did not know you personally. I had once seen you in passing at the Scenic Acres Community Association (Circa 2007 December), and more so I knew your old man really well. I first had him a supply teacher, while he was still in the CFL (circa 1995 September). Back then I used to get picked on, and he told if your going to survive, suck it up and toughen up. I had him again for Phys. Ed at St. Francis (Fall 1998), and believe me, you hit the dad lottery with my Mr. Izquiredo. either way, may your soul be granted eternal peace in heavenly solitude.

Jess was one of the most kind, caring, and genuinely compassionate individuals that I have ever met and above all was an amazing classmate and friend. I’ll never forget the ways she motivated me, taught me to be kind to myself, and to feel like I was enough, even when she couldn’t do the same for herself. She was one of the strongest individuals that I have ever met and the battle she fought will be one that will continue to inspire me for the rest of my life.

Jess brought so much light to every room she was in and always made the prospect of staying up late studying so much more manageable and a lot of fun. The halls and the study rooms feel a little dimmer and emptier in Jess’ absence. Even so, I can still feel her with me, cheering me on and continuing to motivate me to learn and teaching me to be kind to everyone around me.

I met Jess in November of 2017 at Foothills Hospital and throughout the time we spent together she became a light that guided me through the darkness. I was devastated to hear this news. Jessica was three years older than me, but we were in the same BSc Neuroscience Program at the University of Calgary. Our program is so small and tight-knit as a group that this is a devastating loss to all of us. Jessica was one of the first people I ever spoke to on campus, and we were involved in the Mental Health Awareness Club together. I still remember when I first joined as a junior member, being completely in awe at how confident, charismatic, and of course, beautiful, she was. The news about Jessica breaks my heart. I was totally in love with her as she was my first real girlfriend. It all started when you guys came out to Radium for the weekend when I initially started talking to Jessica and fell in love with her bright and silly personality. Our friendship started on the ski hill in Panorama where Jessica would wait for me as I continued to fall down the hill every ten feet. It was at that moment that I realized how charismatic Jessica truly was. Once we started dating I began to realize many other things about Jessica. She was always the hardest working person in the room and had the ability to make anybody smile. We could sit on the couch playing a game and would be laughing with one another the entire time. Our favourite dates were going to Safeway for chinese food or stopping at the husky store to by 5cent candies. Jessica was a very beautiful girl and I will cherish the memories I had with her for the rest of my life. She will always hold a special place in my heart.

Jessica and I met when we were very young and I am so proud to call her one of the first friends I ever had. I remember eating chicken fingers for lunch and playing games until one of us had to go home. As we grew up and went to different schools, we drifted apart. But, one of the most amazing things about Jessica and about our friendship was that no matter how long it had been, we always picked up right where we left off. I remember playing volleyball against her team and watching St. Francis football games with her and sitting with each other in sports medicine class. Jessica always made an effort to be kind and she always put other people before herself. I’m so saddened by this tragic event but I am also incredibly grateful to have had Jessica in my life, no matter how close we were. Jessica was a rarity in this world and she will be missed.

I met Jessica in grade 9, we played on the same soccer team that year. Jessica and I became very good friends through out that year and I learned a lot about her. I learned that Jessica was one of the most kind, loving, beautiful, hilarious and brilliant

people I have ever met. When we went on to high school, she pushed me to try out for the volleyball team with her. Being on that team with such amazing girls was one of the best years of my life. She exemplified what hard work and dedication looked like, whether it was on the court, on the field, or in our classrooms.

My heart breaks for your loss. Jessica was such a beautiful young lady. When I taught her singing lessons she always came to class with a smile on her face and had the voice of an angel. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Jessica and I were great friends throughout our childhoods and early teen years. I had the greatest privilege of getting to know her and her family. I knew Jessica from soccer as young teenagers. She was a girl that knew how to light up a room and light up a team. I will always remember her as such.
