Obituary of MORAN – Hollie Olwen
June 17, 1914 – February 11, 2010
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of this fine lady, “Hollie” Olwen Moran (also lovingly referred to as Gaggy) at the age of 95 years.
Hollie was born near Barnwell AB in 1914. She was part of a very large and loving family made up of the Howells, Yuills, and Burges. In total there were twelve children and they referred to themselves as the Shack Gang in reference to the building that they all shared out back of the store owned by her Mom and Dad, Margaret and Donald Yuill.
She moved to Calgary to look after the Thomas children when her sister passed away. She later met and married William Moran, and was blessed with her only child Margaret Ruth (Peggy). She leaves behind to celebrate her long and wonderful life, daughter Peggy and son-in-law Gordon Buckler; grandson, Trevor (Desrae Nicholson) Buckler; granddaughter Denise (Tracy Walter McCulloch) Buckler; great grandson, William Buckler; and bonus great grandchildren, Jasmyn and Josh McCulloch. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings as well as, husband William Moran, and close friend Ted Forsey.
She worked for the Albertan as head of circulation for many years and retired shortly after it became the Calgary Sun. Once retired she enjoyed a variety of social activities, especially with her birthday luncheon group, Peggy, Gloria Collison, Joan Graves, Dorothy Marsh and Bev Cummins. She loved spending time at Buena Vista on Mara Lake with Peggy and Gord, acting as the spotter whenever Gord skied, and was always included in any social activities for her laughter and zeal for a good time.
The light of her life was her great grandson William and as long as he was nearby she was happy.
A Celebration of Hollie’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
