Hi Nancy sorry to read about your mom..I sure remember your family at the Anglican Church Manse…everything still stands and the house is in good hands with Susan Hill dtr of Leonard Hill and Hill’s meat market…I also dealt with your mom at the Royal Bank in Regina..hope everyone is well…I remember your Dad Ken and your 2 brothers whom I quite liked,,,Eric and Russ…in many ways your entire family was ahead of the times and very focussed on doing things well..in my view a great family and Imperial was better for it…take care sincerely Daryl Shirkey

Dear Eric, Russell, Nancy Anne and families,

We were very saddened to read of your beloved mother, Audrey’s passing. We were so fortunate to receive a lovely Christmas letter this year, well written as usual. Audrey’s “way with the written word” was phenomenal. Our friendship has spanned over many years, about 30 years. St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Regina was never the same before they came and after they moved to BC. Visits to their homes in Clearwater, Kamloops and to Audrey in Calgary kept us in touch. Audrey and Ken will live in our hearts always. The many pieces of stained glass, including a lamp over our teak table, gifts from Audrey on my birthday, watercolour of Ken’s plus our happy visits in the hot tub or walking in the forest to the waterfall in Clearwater where the “huckleberres” whisper to you (Ken said) will keep the memory of them with us always.

Dear Nancy, Eric,& Russell & families

We send you our very deepest sympathy on the passing of our wonderful Audrey.

We thought that there may have been a problem when we didn’t get a Christmas card from her so were not surprised to see the obit in the Leader Post. Thank you for doing that as she has many Royal Bank friends & parishioners of St. Matthews who appreciated being informed.

We looked forward to her Christmas letter every year & stories of Kayto the cat. The border of the letter was always filled with pictures or cut outs or drawings of things that happened during the year. She even touched up pictures of cats to tell us what funny thing the cat had done. That Kayto was a character.

I (Ron) was Audrey’s boss 2 times in the Royal, once at the Vic & Park St. branch & again at the Golden Mile.

Our “red head” was a very excellent employee & a hard worker. Whatever task was given to Audrey it was done 110%

She was more mature than some of the giddy girls & was a very good role model for them & the young men as well. She was missed by us & staff when she & Ken moved out to B.C.

We have one of Ken’s minatures, that he was painting, which he gave us when we were transfered to Swift Current in 1980. It sits in a place of honor in our living room & I look at it every week when dusting & think back to the staff ball games we had & how we thought Ken was going to have a stroke as he would get so involved & his face would get beet red. We did worry about that.

Audrey travelled often by herself & loved learning about other cultures & places. She always brought something back with her for our daughter & would explain the object as a learning tool. Leslie talks about that still. Her favorite was a small doll from Italy in national costume.

She did live life with enthusiasm & did leave behind a wonderful legacy & her wisdom which I’m sure the grandchildren & greats will appreciate as they live their lives.

To Audrey and Ken’s family. I was saddend to read of Audrey’s passing. I have fond memories of their stay in Lumsden and of their involvement with our church. I still have a watercolour painting that Ken did for me in l977 of the 2 grain elevators in Craven, both razed since. Your mother and I were often mistaken for each other as we both had the bright red hair, wore it in similiar fashion and of the same build. We just smiled and said, no I’m Florence or I’m Audrey. I know that you will have many pleasant memories to recall, as long as she lives in your hearts, she will never really die even though she is not there. Deepest sympathy. Florence Holt. I am sorry for your loss.

Your mother and I have been friends since 1974 when we first worked together. She was a unique individual and I also will miss her terribly. For we could always find something funny in life.
