Condolences
Hello,
My name is Douglas Richard Walder. I was born in Ottawa to Ellen and Albert Arthur Walder ( Bert ) in 1940.
I was looking up the Last Name Walder and came across the Obituary for Don. Being six years younger than Don I don't have a lot of memories of Him but I do remember seeing him as a Camera Man at the Canadian National Exhibition in Ottawa on Bank St. he was working for CBC and what clinched it for me is when Aunt Alice name was mentioned. I used to go to Aunt Alice"s house to listen to all the Elvis Presley 78 records. I left home at a early age and never kept in contact with any Family members.
Don Passed on 12 Years ago but I Wish to Express My Condolences to his Family.
Douglas R. Walder
So sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing. Always enjoyed visiting with all of you in Saskatoon and Medicine Hat. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Sorry to hear about Don’s passing. But
I remember him for only a short time when Gail, Don and Aunt Alice came and visited us up in Cairns (Australia) then went to see Yorkie in Rabaul PNG. Ken (Jnr) and (myself) Eileen and family would to send our condolences to the family.
I knew Don very well from years at CBC in Saskatoon. He was our technical manager one of the best in the business. We had an affectionate name for Don coined by someone observing him pen and clipboard in hand counting what seemed to be the tiles one the floor. “Why are you counting the tiles”? they asked “Are you going to replace them”? “No”, Don replied it’s an easy way to figure the square footage of the floor”. From that moment on he was called “The Tile Counter” and I still remember him that way. He also sold me my first sound system, used but very well cared for and I had that for years until I too sold it. We talked about recordings and music and computers when I convinced him to buy an Osborne 1 computer. He became one of the many who formed the Saskatoon Osborne User Group.
I’m sorry to hear of Don’s passing and wish to express condolences to his family. He was a great friend and boss to me.
So sorry to see Don go, please accept my condolences to you and your family.
Worked with Don at CBC Ottawa for many years in the technical department, always remember Don as a gentleman.
I was also one of the staff members at CBC Saskatoon when the station first opened in 1971. I was the sole newsroom editor and reporter when we started. It didn’t take long before CBKST became well known at the network for always being able to do more with less. None of that would have been possible without Don’s skills and attention to details. I moved to the network in Toronto in 1974 with many fond memories and a great appreciation of all Don meant to us then. My sincere condolences
to his family.
