Obituary of GOLDBERG – Mary

March 1, 1907 – January 19, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary (Miriam) Goldberg on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, one month short of her 103rd birthday. She was born in Lopiennik, Poland and immigrated to Eyre, Saskatchewan in 1925. She moved to Calgary in 1928 where she worked in the Clifton Grocery Store. She fell in love with her boss Robert Hurov, whom she married in 1931. He unfortunately predeceased her in 1947. She was also predeceased by her family in Poland who all perished in the Holocaust. She remarried Louie Goldberg in 1966 and he passed away in 1977. She is survived by her sons Ron Hurov, Harvey (Rickie) Hurov, and daughters Shirley-Ann (Arnold z”l) Goldberg, Estelle (Jerry) Bleet; grandchildren Robert, Brian (Kim), Cindy, Liz (Paul), Marla, Daryl, Alana, Rhonda, Danny (Elisa), Michelle (Yuval), Shawn (Desiree), Tami, Andy (Angel) and eleven great grandchildren. Mary enjoyed a party and always had a smile on her face and threw kisses to everyone. She was full of energy, strongly independent and very feisty. She was an amazing woman, mother and grandmother. Her spirit and determination will live on in our Hearts Forever. We would like to thank the staff of Unit 400 at the Beverly Care Centre, with a special thank you to Leyne, Dr. Brzeski, and her devoted caregivers, Rosalena, Donia and Doris. Memorial tributes may be made directly to the ALS Society or the charity of your choice.
