Obituary of GORDON – John Cuthbert

November 23, 1919 – January 14, 2010 It is with sad but thankful hearts that our family announces that our loved one, John Gordon, passed peacefully from our midst to his heavenly home, surrounded by his family. John was born to Cuthbert and Emily Gordon in Portreeve, SK. He was predeceased by his mother Emily in 1920; a sister Joy in 1928; his father Cuthbert in 1968; and his stepmother Nora in 1971. John enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1943 and served overseas until the end of the war in 1945. He met Joan, the love of his life, in Four Marks, England in 1945. John and Joan were united in marriage on March 30, 1946 in Four Marks and reunited in Portreeve, SK in September 1946. They raised a family of three while John pursued a career with the CPR which spanned thirty years and numerous communities. This allowed the family to make many life-long friends. John is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years Joan; his children, Kathleen (Frank) Hollick, Douglas (Geri) Gordon and Daphne Urcheshen; his grandchildren, Sheri-Lynn (Oliver) Ashley, Charlene Dimmock, Camille (Greg) Owchar, Andrea (Vance) Beblow, Heather Gordon, and Johnathon Urcheshen; and his great-grandchildren, Dillan, Mackenzie, Liam, Keeley, and Emily. He is also survived by a special brother-in-law David Morgan and his wife Margaret and their children, Gareth and Derrien and their families. John is also remembered by his Faith family. A Memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel Community Church, 3003 – 28th Street SE, on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
