Obituary of Daniel James MCDONALD

Dan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in Calgary at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his loving wife Bette of 59 years. Dan was Bette’s best friend and the love of her life. As father and grandfather, he was always there with his love, affection and unending support. Dan was the consummate gentleman, with a smile that could warm any heart. He asked very little of others but gave freely of himself. He will be lovingly remembered by daughter Nancy Laird and her husband Scott and grandchildren Spencer, Jaime and Geordie, affectionately their “DJ”. Dan was the youngest son of a family of six children and is survived by his dear sisters Viola and Marjorie McDonald of Niagara Falls, Ontario and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dan served in the RCAF during WWII, attaining the rank of Flight Officer, followed by a long and rewarding management career primarily in the retail industry. Dan and Bette moved from Thornhill, Ontario to Calgary in 1995. A private family Mass is being Celebrated. Friends of Dan & Bette and Nancy & Scott are invited to attend a gathering in Dan’s remembrance at the Laird home at 512 Rideau Road S.W. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. Dan’s family extends a sincere thank you to the staff at Cedars Villa for the excellent and compassionate care he received over the past two years. And a thank you to Tammy Jenkins for her help and support during this difficult time. If family and friends so desire, they may contribute to the charity of their choice.
