Obituary of MAHONEY – Rosella Marie Louise

October 2, 1937 – January 11, 2010 A woman of strength who gave the best of herself to everyone. Rosella passed away peacefully at her home in Calgary at the age of 72. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Brian, Tere, Timothy, and Mark, all of Calgary; and by daughter Karen of Vancouver; as well as grandchildren, Kaelan, Ani, Sophie, Ruby, and Flora. Rosella’s siblings, Helen (Laisnez) Dodd of Trochu, Alberta, Charles Laisnez of Settler, Alberta, and twin Fr. Albert Laisnez of Montreal will miss her as well. Rosella was predeceased by her parents, John and Ange (Marcil) Laisnez of Big Valley, AB. In addition, there will be countless friends and acquaintances from the Calgary area and far beyond who encountered Rosella in such settings as Self Connection Books in Calgary, which she started in 1978 with partner Patricia (Childrey) Henderson, and a wide variety of personal growth seminars and workshops in and around the Calgary area over the years. A tireless and naturally gifted builder of community wherever she went, she will be remembered for her genuine interest in and acceptance of all she met. When she couldn’t be found at home or gathered with friends, it was because she was recharging her spirit with the beauty of nature. Rosella was born on a farm near Big Valley and completed a nursing degree in Vegreville, Alberta before moving to Calgary in 1958 to work at the Holy Cross Hospital. She married Kent Mahoney of Calgary in 1960 and by 1966 they were raising a busy brood of five. Her travels during her lifetime took her to four continents and into the hearts and souls throughout the globe. She leaves behind her a path strewn with flowers. Her family would especially like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Pat Henderson of Calgary and Marion Stotts of Radium Hot Springs, BC, for the loving care and assistance given to Rosella during her last days. Many thanks also to Dr. Linda Fong and the Palliative Care Team of the Alberta Health Services for their excellent care – with a special thanks to Chris, Lana, and Sandra. At Rosella’s request, there will be a Celebration of Life in lieu of a funeral service on Sunday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Valley Ridge Golf Course (11618 Valley Ridge Park NW, Calgary). If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Calgary Health Trust – Palliative Care, Suite 800, 11012 MacLeod Trail S.E., Calgary, AB T2J 6A5, Telephone: (403)943-0615, www.thetrust.ca or to the Radiant Rose Academy, #201, 2726 Spruce Street, Vancouver, BC, V6H 2R2, 604-267-0985.
