Obituary of DOCKERY – William

August 16, 1928 – January 10, 2010 Bill Dockery was a straight shooter. What you saw was what you got. He was described as an independent thinker. He marched to his own drum. Bill was an admired friend and colleague to many in the oil patch. He was fiercely loyal and surrounded himself with the ones he loved. Bill was born and raised in Calgary and attended St. Mary’s Boy’s High School. As a young man Bill loved sports and excelled at them all. His passion though, was hockey. Prior to enrolling at the University of Alberta, Bill worked his way up the hockey ladder playing for The Trail Smoke Eaters and NHL farm teams in Hershey and Los Angeles. After his hockey career, Bill attended and graduated from the University of Alberta with an Engineering degree. As did many others of the day, he went to work in the oil patch. The extensive knowledge he developed, coupled with his strong ambition, helped him become one of Calgary’s most successful and sought after Consulting Engineers. Sports never ventured far from Bill’s life, however, as he remained an avid hockey and football fan. He played golf at the Earl Grey Golf & Country Club and was a member of the Calgary Booster Club and The Glencoe Club. Bill died suddenly on January 10, 2010. He will be missed by his many friends, his adoptive family including his best friend Gerry O’Connor and her family Maureen Ord (Murray), their daughters Robyn and Sarah, Pat O’Connor (Barb), their daughters Katie and Ali, Kathleen O’Connor, Mike O’Connor (Sandy), Sean and Erin O’Connor and their mother Deborah McCorquodale, along with the pets Cooper, Finn, Sham and Punky. Bill is survived by his brother James Dockery (Lil), his nephews and nieces Kathy Dockery-Brouwer, Michael Dockery, Trish Duncan, Maureen Dockery, Sean Dockery and their families. He is pre-deceased by his parents Patrick and Elizabeth Dockery and his sister Irene Barker. A very heartfelt thanks goes to the Staff of The Fountains of Mission and Home Care for welcoming him with all of their loving care. He was grateful to all of you. At Bill’s request there will be no funeral services.
