Obituary of CHRIASTY – John Anthony

December 17, 1922 – January 10, 2010 John Anthony Chriasty Beloved husband of Margaret Chriasty, passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the age of 87 years. John was born on December 17, 1922, in Bankhead Alberta. In July of the following year the family moved to the town of Blairmore in the Crowsnest Pass after the Bankhead coal mine closed. John joined the Air Force in 1943 and was stationed in Tofino, patrolling the west coast. After the war, John moved back to Blairmore where he married Margaret McCullough on June 3, 1945. John studied to become a journeyman electrician. When the family moved to Calgary in 1957 he joined the City of Calgary’s Electric System where he remained until his retirement in 1986. Early on, John developed an enjoyment of the outdoors where his interests included hiking, fishing and gardening. Family vacations were often spent camping. Later he and Margaret enjoyed traveling. They visited Hawaii several times, and thoroughly enjoyed visits to Germany and Greece with their long time friends from those beautiful countries. We will always remember John as a caring person with strong values, who saw the practical side of life but recognized and appreciated the humour in things. John is survived by his son Warren (Joan) of Calgary, AB; brother Carol of Nanaimo BC; and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret, and his sisters, Emma, Rose, and Kathleen.
