STINSON Gwendolyn Louise

Obituary of STINSON – Gwendolyn Louise

You made beauty, love and magic in our lives. Gwen was born in Saskatoon on December 6, 1919, and passed away in Calgary on January 9, 2010. She was predeceased by her parents Annette (nee Boisvert) and Harrison Dawson; brother Jack Dawson; sister Mona Chiasson; and by former husband Wally Stinson. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Donna; sons, Ron (Jackie) and Allan (Mary) (formerly Sheila); and grandchildren, Adrienne, Melina, Will (Melissa), Ramona, and Renée. Gwen graduated from the U of S in Phys. Ed. and taught briefly before becoming a homemaker for her family, a time she remembered and we remember as magical, especially the summers at the lake. She helped design and build three homes and two cottages, made clothes, and did lots of crafts. In the early 1960’s, she pioneered a Montessori approach for mentally handicapped children in Saskatoon. In her senior years, she practiced meditation, drove herself across the country and travelled overseas. Her spirit is always at home at the little cottage at Carlyle Lake, and her spirit lives in our hearts. Throughout her life Gwen would not hesitate to take on the hard tasks in order to help others through their rough passages and challenging projects. She saw first to the needs of others and her love was unconditional and selfless. In a poem she titled “Age,” Gwen wrote: “Let me rest a while within your arms I feel my past, my cares dissolve A moment’s grace Before I travel on” Our prayers may go where she has already journeyed.
