Obituary of Edward James SAUNDERS

May 4, 1931 – January 3, 2010 Edward (Paddy) James Saunders of Calgary passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the age of 78 years. Paddy was born on May 4, 1931 in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 where he met and married Joyce Kowal. Paddy is survived by his loving wife Joyce of fifty-six years; his daughter Elizabeth (Bill); sons Patrick, Ned (Therese), Bill (Tammy), Matthew (Valerie); and daughter Brenda (Sean); eleven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; as well as two sisters Brenda (Frank) Devany, and Mary (Andrew) Dunne. He was predeceased by his father (Isaac), mother (Elizabeth), and sister (Deirdre) in Ireland. Paddy founded a series of successful commercial paint contracting firms that completed work in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia from the 1970’s to the 1990’s. He had a passion for the game of golf which he instilled in his family. “We will miss you Paddy!” A Private Family Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 6, 2010.
