Obituary of NOURSE – Lee Roy

October 8, 1928 – December 6, 2009 Lee Roy Nourse, beloved husband of Shirley Nourse of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the age of 81 years. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend was born at Erskine, AB and raised in Stettler, AB. He grew up on the family farm which was homesteaded by his grandparents, Ransom and Mary Nourse in 1900 after they emigrated from the United States. Roy is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years Shirley; daughter Karen; grandchildren, Julia and Cameron Hillier and Trevor Nourse; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Nourse; brothers, Neil and Fred; sisters, Verona Kanton, Irene Strader, Florence Duncan, and Fay Byer. Roy was predeceased by his beloved son, Daniel Roy Nourse, on July 4, 2009; his parents Frank and Lillian (nee Coakley); brothers, Clive, Preston, Clark, and John; sisters, Clara, Barbara Collins, Judith Roberts. As a young man, Roy apprenticed with Anderson Plumbing in Calgary then worked with the CPR hotels at the Chateau Lake Louise, Palliser, Empress, and Banff Springs, living in Banff for five years. He went onto work for Canadian Western Natural Gas for thirty-two years, retiring in 1987. Roy led a busy, active life. He was a member of the Masonic lodge: Cascade #5 Lodge, Banff, AB since 1954, Otuskwan Chapter 9, Past First Principal in 1968, CWNG Pensioners, and Mechanical Contractors Association of Alberta Old Timers Club. He volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross, was an Honorary Member of the Advertising and Sales Club of Calgary (1980), serving as President in 1964. Was past president of the Calgary Tourist and Convention Bureau 1981-1983 and was involved with numerous other associations. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
