Obituary of JOHNSON – Doris Gertrude

December 16, 1919 – December 3, 2009 Doris Gertrude Johnson of Calgary, formerly of Brookfield, NS, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the age of 89 years. Doris was born at Cambridge Station, Kings County, Nova Scotia on December 16, 1919. Throughout her life, she worked at Eastern Factory in Truro, NS, Sunrise Restaurant in Brookfield, NS, and John Ross Yarn Barn in Truro. She was also a member of the Ladies Legion Auxiliary Branch 26 in Truro. She loved “Bingo” and travelling. Doris was residing in Calgary at the time of her passing. Doris is survived by her loving daughters and their spouses, Glenora Gamble of Upper Economy Colchester County, NS, Vivian and Bill Paul of Calgary, Shirley and Victor DeBay of Brookfield, NS, Donna Leslie and Rob of South Branch, NS, Karen and John Blinn of Truro, NS; and Barbara Johnson and Gordon of Debert, NS; her sons and their spouses, Harry (Speed) and Louise of Winnipeg, MB, Wayne and Chris, Gordon, Tommy, Randy, all of Calgary, Douglas and Carol of Alliston, ON, Jimmy and Donna, Darrell and Marilyn, all of Truro, Steven and Theresa of Brampton, ON, and her stepson George of Upper Economy Colchester County; forty-five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Melvin Edson Johnson; parents, James and Lily Blackburn; son-in-law Derral Gamble; a grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Clarence and Leonard; and sisters, Sadie and Jennie. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E. Calgary, AB T2X 3J3) on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will take place at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512Willow St, Truro, Nova Scotia, at a later date.
