Obituary of KOHN – Sophie Freda

May 1, 1913 – December 2, 2009 Sophie Freda Kohn of Calgary passed away peacefully, after a rich and fulfilled life, in her 96th year. Born in Russia in 1913, she was the first child of Ben and Chaia Aisenstat. She married her husband, Louis, in 1936. Sophie was very active in many organizations in Medicine Hat, Lethbridge and Calgary. She was the “Hostess with the Mostest” and will be fondly remembered by her many friends. Sophie is survived by her daughter Betty Claire (Billy) Davids, son Garry (Linda); sister Sarah Karasick, four wonderful grandchildren, David Warhaft, Barbara (Ben) Gelfant, Barry Warhaft, and Jordana Kohn; six beautiful great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1995; and two sisters, Lily Simmonds and Ruby Gutkin. Funeral Services will be held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel (North East Corner of Highway 22X & 37th Street S.W.,) on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at the Beth Tzedec Memorial Park. The caring and devotion to Sophie by her niece Geneva Cohen and special friend Joan Smehoff cannot be measured. Thank you to the caring and compassionate staff of Unit 400 in the Beverly Centre.
