Obituary of Janice Grey Eyes

(Niinakii- Chief Woman) January 1, 1963 – December 2, 2009 Janice was born on January 1, 1963 in Bassano, Alberta and peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 in the Foothills Hospice, Okotoks. Janice lived a full life surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed handgames, bingo, powwows, sports, horseracing, and working alongside her parents and siblings at the Calgary Stampede. She graduated in 1980 from Drumheller Composite High School. Her greatest accomplishment in high school was when she was chosen to travel to Paris, France. In 1982 Janice met her husband Larry, and married in 1995; they spent twenty-seven happy years together. Her most prized possessions were her family. Janice was a devout Christian and made her Cursillo (Ave Maria) in 1995. Alongside her sister Roberta and Aunt Wanda, Janice completed a Certificate in Pastoral Biblical Theology in June 2002. Janice worked at Chief Old Sun and Crowfoot Elementary as a Guidance Counsellor. She was also a certified Life Skills Coach and was completing her degree. Janice is survived by her loving parents, Ed and Marie Calf Robe, her husband Larry Grey Eyes and children; Reno, River, Maria, and Jenny; granddaughter Misti Dawn; niece Lynn (Randy) whom she loved and devoted most of her time to. Janice is also survived by her siblings; Delbert (Sandra), Roberta, Noran (Florene), and Eddy (Zena), as well as her nieces and nephews. Janice is also survived by her aunts and uncles: Bruce (Wanda), Kathy, Sharon, Ruth (Francis), Andrew (Carolyn),Traditional Adopted Mother Patricia Yellow Sun. Janice is predeceased by her grandparents Ben and Myrtle Calf Robe, Tom and Floria Broad Scalplock, aunts and uncles Donna, Wilfred, George, Larry, Donald, Albert, Lucy, Glenter. Janice’s extended families include: Weasel Moccasin, Sitting Eagle, Rides at the Door, Across the Mountain, Anderson, Dumont, Crow Chiefs, Broad Scalplock, Crane Bear, Pretty Young Man, Calf, Sun Walk, Weasel Head, Morning Bull, Healy, Jerry, Crier, Stevens, Backfat, Red Crow, Yellow Fly, Black Kettle, Poor Eagle, Butterfly, Tallman, Standing Rock, Oakes, Yellow Old Woman, Spring Chief, Weasel Head, Medicine Shield, White Elk, Yellow Horn, Many Guns, Small Legs, Three Suns, Delaney and Many Shots.
