Obituary of MANNS – Susan Edith
September 30, 1940 – November 27, 2009
Manns, Susan Edith (nee Scrase) died in the early hours of November 27, 2009 surrounded by her family and the wonderful staff at the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, AB.
Susan was born on September 30th, 1940 to Frank and Mary Scrase in Sherridon, Manitoba. She grew up with her younger sister Frances in the northern mining town of Lynn Lake, Manitoba and graduated with a Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba. On June 8th, 1963 she married John (Jack) Manns and together they lived in California, England and Colorado though they spent most of their working years in Saskatoon. More recently, they spent their retirement years in Alberta where they were close to their children and grandchildren. They have three children: Patricia, Derek (Jennifer), and Braden (Alison) and six grandchildren including Ethan, Liam, Daegan, Jade, Bryn and Kate. Family was an important part of Susan’s life and her children and grandchildren were a constant source of joy. We trust that she is now free to watch her grandchildren play football, hockey, dance and act as they make their way through life’s journey.
Susan loved her time in Saskatoon. She cherished her many friends on Leddy Crescent, Riverside Golf course and St. Paul’s United Church. She was always active and enjoyed golfing, curling, cooking, gardening and quilting. We are left with many quilts and recipes that will remind us of her. As her children grew up Susan went back to work at an accounting firm and remained active at St Paul’s United Church where she chaired the board for three years.
As anyone who knew Susan was aware, she was an extremely easy person to get along with; she had a beautiful smile and not a bad word for anyone. If you couldn’t get along with Susan, there was something wrong with you! Many of the caregivers at Bethany have commented how she would light up their day with her warm smile and easy laugh.
She celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary with her loving husband in 2003 and though she would have been eager to continue many more adventures with Jack, sadly, this was not to be. Susan lived since February 2006 in the Bethany Care Centre. We are very grateful for all the love and caring they provided and for the way they cared for all of us in her last days. Rest well Susan; you lived well, laughed often and loved much. We will not forget you.
