Obituary of SABO – Otmar

December 15, 1921 – November 19, 2009 After many good years on this earth, it is with a mixture of extreme sadness and joyful hope we announce that Ott’s journey here ended peacefully on Thursday, November 19 at the age of 87 years. Born in Veszprem, Hungary, he immigrated with his parents to Canada in 1930. They ended up living in Lethbridge, AB where he met the woman of his life, Mary, his wife of over 55 years. Moved to Calgary, and began his long career at the railway. His family meant everything to him, and he was always willing to help out where needed. Each of us were comforted and nourished, having been touched by the gift of his life and provision for his family. Ott’s parting comment spoken so often was “Love your neighbour as yourself. I recommend it.” He indeed lived this out after his retirement. Otmar is survived by their four children, Ron (Arlene), JoAnn, Darryl (Kathleen), and Kelly (Susan). He leaves seven grandchildren: Albert, Rachel, Courtney, Brett, Jared, Cassady, and Kyler. He is also survived by his first cousins Elizabeth (Edl) Scheibelhoffer and Roman Edl. Apart from us, he will be deeply missed, but we know he is free from the pain and suffering. He goes on to his new life to be with his beloved Mary, with his precious grandchildren, Adam and Natasha; parents Joseph and Anna Szabo; three brothers, who went before him. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340 – 4th Street S.W.) on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in the “Holy Family” section at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the honour of sending a donation in memory of his granddaughter Natasha to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (http://www.rettsyndrome.org/ for details) is desired, as there has been major progress towards a cure for this disorder.
