Condolences
Dear Martin & the Gillis family:
We are just learning of the passing of your beloved Colleen. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. From our days in the “Shipyard” and Sydney Academy to our time at StFX, we remember Colleen with a smile as bright as the sun.

Colleen and I have been friends since we were 11 years old. I am, and will always be in awe of her gentle, quiet bravery and her strong faith. Martin, you were her rock, steadfast and true. My thoughts turn to her every time I cross the causeway to her beloved Cape Breton.
Dear Martin
I was so sorry to hear about Colleen. I remember her lovely smile. My prayers are with you at this difficult time.
Upon learning of the sad news of Colleen’s passing from my daughter who was a student of Colleen’s in the mid 1980’s at St. Bernadette, I am reminded of the kind of teacher she was. My daughter spent the summer before moving into Colleen’s class in angst as Colleen had a reputation as being a strict diciplinarian. I assured my daughter, Charleen, over and over again, that these kinds of teachers more often than not turn out to be the ‘best’ of teachers. I was right and Charleen went on right through to Junior High School at St. Augustines receiving special math tutoring from Mrs. Siller (the Killer)!
Really good teachers come along only once or, if you are lucky, twice in one’s school career and it is these teachers who make the greatest impact on our and our children’s lives. That lasting legacy makes us all better people as they stand as the perfect example of guiding and leading with a firm and loving hand and a wonderfully caring heart. It is never goodbye … but always ‘until we meet again’!!!
The best teacher out there. She was carring, understanding, giving of her time and had an infectous smile. She will be missed dearly. My heart goes out to you and your family Martin.
Dear Martin:
We were very sad to hear the news of Colleen’s passing earlier this week.
While we had only met her once or twice, we could tell that she was a very caring and spirit filled person.
We are sure that she will be missed deeply. It is our wish that the memories of the life you shared will always be real.
With our thoughts and a prayer,
Jean and Leonard Siller
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this difficult time. My sincere condolences. Mrs. Siller was an amazing woman and a brilliant teacher. I was a student of hers in the mid 90’s. She will be dearly missed.
Dear Martin and family,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
I worked with Colleen for six years at St. Bernadette. She was an excellent teacher whose love for her students was very apparent.
We shared many, many laughs together over the years.
Know that you are in my prayers,
Sincerely,
Ellen
My deepest and heartfelt condolences. I was one of her students back in 1995 and I can say that she touched many lives of students including me. She had a heart of gold and was a great teacher. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Martin,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Colleen’s passing. You have suffered a tremendous loss and words cannot express the sorrow you must feel. Today I remember the great times we enjoyed at St. Francis Xavier. I have some great memories of our dinner parties in Antigonish and all the laughs I shared with you and Colleen at Gillis Hall and in our humble apartments. I know Colleen was the love of your life from your days at Sydney Academy and I just wanted to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.

Dear Martin,
My heart is aching this morning for your loss. Mrs. Siller was, and always will be, my most cherished elementary school teacher. I was one of her many Grade 5 students at St. Bernadette and I will tell you that the kindnesses she showed me and the fullness of her heart still resonates with me fifteen years later. She was an exceptionally lovely human being and I promise that the love, the warmth and the generosity she shared with her students will be missed but never, ever forgotten.
Love and prayers,
Monica White
Martin, My heartfelt condolences to you and your family and pray may her soul rest in eternal peace.
Martin,
I am very sorry for your loss. Colleen was an exceptional person. She loved all that was around her, and she had a special love for animals. Other than when she was a child, I don’t recall ever seeing her cry. She always had a smile on her face and something nice to say about anyone and anything. She always looked on the positive and bright side of life.
Paul
Mrs. Siller will be sadly missed. My brother and I both had her for our grade five teacher. Between the two of us, we have so many memorable moments. She always showed such grace and compassion. Heaven is so fortunate to have her.
Dear Martin and Family, it was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Colleen. Martin, I wish to extend my deep and sincere condolences to you and your family during this very difficult time.

Dear Martin, I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your lovely wife. I didn’t know her well enough to have been aware of her many wonderful attributes. However, she obviously provided you with a great deal of love and support in your life, and made a positive impact on the lives of many others. You will surely miss her dearly. My heart goes out to you. Sandra Hamilton
Martin,

May time heal your sorrow.

I am sorry to hear of Colleen’s passing. I had her as a grade 5 teacher 14 years ago and will always remember her. She was kind and loving and even tuitored me on the weekend @ her own home. Not too many teachers would have done that to help out their students. She will be greatly missed by all of those who had the great pleasure of ever knowing her.
Dear Martin, Peter and I and our boys were deeply saddened to hear about Coleen’s passing. I did not know she was that critical. I have many fond memories of Colleen and especially our trips to the farmer’s market and some of our Christmas times together. I know this is such a difficult time for you but hopefully you will sense the Comforter as it says blessed are they that mourn for they will be comforted. We as a family will be praying for you at this most difficult time.

Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your dear wife. I lost my mom a month ago, also from the ravages of cancer, so understand a bit of what you are going through. I am buoyed by the belief that our deceased loved ones await us with others in another dimension, that they are happy and want us to move on, however painfully, with our lives.
You have my sincerest sympathies.

Martin,
I am so sorry to hear about Colleen passing. I remember her first battle with cancer many years ago and how she fought and recovered to enjoy life for several years. How wonderful that she was able to have such a positive impact on so many young people and their parents. I admired her strength so much and I admired how supportive you were of her.
You will miss her. Thinking of you and offerring my deepest sympathy. Doris

Martin, I can’t imagine how you feel – your best friend is gone and we are all filled with sadness. Just cherish the thought that Colleen is in a better place now and can hear the angels sing! God Bless
I remember Mrs. Siller when I was a student at St.Bernadette in the late 80’s. She was a wonderful teacher and I know that she will be missed. I wish her family all the best.
My very first best friend will never be gone from my heart. From when we met in Grade 4, then thousands of miles apart for over 29 years, it didn’t matter. An email, a visit home to Cape Breton, we’d pick up where we left off…like we were never apart. Our friendship will never die. Now you’re one of your beloved angels, Colleen, so you can watch over me & see how bad my cooking efforts really are. That should keep you laughing for eternity. Until…..we meet again. Linda
