Obituary of WONG – Moon Wai
September 28, 1934 – November 14, 2009
Mr. Wong, Moon Wai (Jim), passed away on Saturday November 14, 2009 at the age of 75 years.
Jim was born in Toi-San China, where survived the incredible hardships of WWII to immigrate to Canada in 1955. He lived in Penticton where he became an apprentice chef and learned English before moving to Saskatchewan with his wife Kam. In Saskatchewan he ran a restaurant in several small towns including Val Marie, where he spent nearly a decade before his family moved to Calgary in 1978. Once in Calgary Jim worked at several hotels as a cook, and managed to send both his sons to Medical School before retiring in 1998. After retirement he kept fit walking with multiple friends at South Centre and made up for his previous lack of travel by going to China 5 times post retirement. He will be greatly missed by his friends, neighbours and family.
Jim is survived by his sons Dr. Sam Wong of Edmonton, Dr. Terry Wong (Maranda) of Toronto. He is also survived by his sister Wong Poy Fan and her family in Enping China; many cousins in both Canada and USA. Jim was predeceased by his wife Kam Yung Wong
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 2 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park.
