Obituary of SLAWINSKI – Elzbieta Barbara

September 14, 1938 – November 9, 2009 Elzbieta passed away peacefully in Calgary on Monday, November 9, 2009. She is survived by her husband Andrzej, her two sons Michael and Raphael and their spouses Elena and Vera, and family members in Canada and Poland. She was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1938, and it was there that she completed her university studies, earning a doctorate in Natural Sciences in 1978. In 1982, with her husband and sons, she immigrated to Canada and settled in Calgary. In 2005 she retired from the University of Calgary as a Professor Emeritus of Psychology. She was a dedicated teacher and researcher, and mentored a number of graduate students. Elzbieta was a woman of many interests and talents. She gave shelter to and cared for many abandoned animals; she actively supported the Humane Society and wildlife conservation. An outstanding climber and skier during her youth, she never lost her passion for the outdoors, and indulged it in Europe, North Africa, Oceania, and South and North America. Above all, her home was a warm and welcoming place for family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will also be held at St. Luke Catholic Church, (1566 Northmount Drive N.W.) on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
