Obituary of Choquette – Anne Elizabeth

On Tuesday, November 4th, 2009 Anne rejoined her husband of 57 years, Peter, who predeceased her on March 5, 2000. She will no longer be upset that, “he didn’t let me go first”. Just 21 days short of her 93rd birthday, Mom endured almost three years of continual, debilitating, discomfort since a fall in her home in March of 2007, but, throughout that period, she maintained her long established routine of being impeccably groomed, fashionably attired and ever bejewelled. A lady in all respects. Throughout her life, all who encountered her marvelled at her elegant fingers, her beautifully manicured nails, her lovely skin and, her fashion awareness – be it personal or decorative. Mom was the seventh born of eleven children. Raised in and around the communities of Allen and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, at 26 years of age, she met Peter on a blind date arranged by her best friend. While back at his Army base in Shilo, MB he came down with the mumps and didn’t contact her. Mom, however, gave him a “second chance”, and they were married in Saskatoon in 1943. Thus began her new vocation of raising a family all the while traveling to different locations in Canada, as Dad followed his post war career with Safeway. At various times she lived in Vancouver; Victoria; Winnipeg (twice); Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay); Toronto; Stroud, ON and Calgary and loved them all. Mom was a loving and loved wife, raised four children, was a terrific mother, maintained a spotless home, and was a gourmet cook, a voracious reader, a very competitive card player, an elegant hostess, a good friend, a proud grandmother and a great-grandmother who loved to cradle the new babies in her arms. She relished attending auctions and thoroughly enjoyed going to garage sales with daughters Karen and Arlene looking for that elusive “something” . . . at the right price. She was lady who loved to shop . . . not necessarily to buy something . . . but just to shop. She took great pleasure in being asked her advice regards interior decorating and, on at least one occasion, was, in essence, given a “blank cheque” to help a long-time friend find the “right’ accessories for her home. Mom was in seventh heaven. Among the many who will forever, lovingly remember her are: Her brother Edmund (Eddie) Jacek & wife Irene – Comox, BC and Anne’s sister, Helen Johansen – Saskatoon, SK.; Son, Ron/wife Louise – Creston, BC; daughter, Karen Moffatt & husband Murray – Traverse Bay, MB; daughter, Arlene Choquette – Calgary; and son, Robert (Bob)/wife Carla – Calgary; Nine grandchildren: Robert Choquette/wife Susan – Richmond, BC; Lyn-Marie Choquette/ partner Dionne Tracey – Kelowna, BC; April Andreosso/husband Mike of Winnipeg, MB; Karri Moffatt/husband Brad Linden – Vancouver, BC; Kristen Kovich/husband Shane – Winnipeg, MB; Christopher Dyett/partner Joanne Anderson – Calgary; Kelly Robinson/husband Jamie – Morinville, AB; Elisha Wingrowich/husband Randy – Calgary; Ryan Choquette – Calgary and two step grandsons Will Schenn – Saskatoon, SK and Matthew Schenn – Calgary; Ten great grandchildren: Dylan Choquette and Dana Ruether – Kelowna; Tyler and Cole Kovich – Winnipeg; Maximo Moffatt and Sid Linden – Vancouver; Addison and Charlize Wingrowich – Calgary; Hayden Robinson – Morinville, and Hannah Anderson-Dyett – Calgary; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; innumerable nieces and nephews and many, many friends of long standing. A special thank you, from Mom, to Arlene and Bob, who were there for her whenever she needed them . . . because they were there. In an effort to facilitate family and friends having ample time for planning and to take advantage of better weather, the family has chosen to defer a celebration of Mom’s life until early Spring, 2010 (likely in April). A date and venue will be published in the Calgary Herald at that time.
