November 12, 1944 – October 22, 2009 Ron, beloved husband of Chris Haydon of Calgary and father of Cathy (Dave) Miedema and Darlene (Mark) Riley, both of Ottawa, passed away at the Agapé Hospice. He was Grampa to four young grandchildren, Trent and Avery Miedema and Curtis and Nathan Riley. He is survived by his sister Carolyn of Calgary; and aunts, Gladys New, Elsie, Fran and Olive Calder and their families. He will be greatly missed by mother-in-law Rosella Hubka, and Chris’ sisters and their families, Pat (Norm Canuel) and Colleen (Rick Penner), all of Claresholm and brother-in-law Joe Izsak of Lethbridge (Erika Izsak of Kelowna). He was predeceased by his parents Wilf (2001) and Helen Haydon (1997); father-in-law Bob Hubka (July 17, 2009); and nephew Michael Izsak (1993). Ron was born and raised in Edmonton. Upon completing Instrumentation at NAIT in June of 1966 Ron was hired by Pan American Petroleum, later Amoco Canada, to work at Whitecourt. In October of 1968 he transferred to Calgary working at the new Crossfield plant and in the field. In 1992-1993 he worked at Kirby Leasemire (Ft. McMurray), returned to Crossfield and retired in 1995 after twenty-nine and a half years. Ron cherished family and friends. Ron and Chris celebrated their thirty-ninth wedding anniversary with a cruise to Alaska in August. He enjoyed camping, the outdoors, woodworking and golf. Upon retiring he passionately took up golf (Collicutt Siding), curling (Northhill) and darts (Legion # 284). He fought with profound determination a two year battle that was not to be won. The support and care provided by Doctors Rosen and D. Johnson, the Tom Baker Center, Home Care and Agapé Hospice was invaluable.
